Born in the heart of Sherwood. I have always loved Rock 'n' Roll music since I found my Mum & Dad's record collection in my early youth. I used to play their records on a large radiogram which was the size of a sideboard in the living room and this soon got me into collecting vinyl records spending many hours in record shops in Nottinghamshire. Born in Bradford, West Yorkshire in 1942. My child and teenage years were spent growing up in the late forties, the fiftees and up to the sixties, listening to music on the wireless, jukukeboxes, and coffee bars.I got a record player at 14 for my birthday , and would buy a record a week with moneyI got from a paper round. I first got into radio helping in the record library at leeds Hospital Radio Service, it was known as Radio Poplar, I would help with wiring wards, building studios, and going round to talk to patents etc., and I stayed with Poplar Radio for over 25 years until the station closed down. I went behind the 'mic' whilst at Poplar Radio and also had show on a country music station in Lincolnshire , and also community radio Stations in West Leeds, and South Leeds Rasio. I am pleased to be jioning 'The UK 1950s Radio Station' the fiftees brought us the birth of some wonderful new sounds with Electric Guiters, Rock and Roll, CountriesThe Nashville Sound,Doo Wop, the lovely ballads, and the vinyl 45 record, Pop went fifies, and I grew up with it all, so I hope you'll love the music that I play for you...Ben Bruce More on Ben |
