During last summer we took the Radio Stations Road Show out on a tour of various 1940s and other Vintage events from Blythe just North of Newcastle to Marazion near Penzance in Cornwall and various other destinations between. Due to the time constraints and cost's involved we have decided to attend fewer events this coming year. However we do have a few available dates remaining for 2012 if you would like to hire us to attend your event please contact us.

Milton Keynes Museum

Milton Keynes has a truly wonderful museum, so many things to see and do here. You can experience how the lives of ordinary people have changed over the past two hundred years. Many fascinating exhibits depicting rural domestic and industrial life of the area including the advent of Milton Keynes new town. The telephone museum was of great interest to me personally, giving me great comfort and a feeling of protection from the phobia I have of today's technology packed mobile telephone. To me a mobile phone should be just a device to make phone calls on. I do not think it should be a device to degrade the english language to a new form of short hand that texting has produced, though I do like how you can listen to our station on it.

We really enjoyed our time at the museum and met up with many friends we have met at the other events we have attended in the area. The larger than life Dennis 'The Menace' Buller and Hillary Buller such a lovely lady who deserves a medal and Rob Ross. It was great to see the Pitsford Home Guard and the Cambs Beds Lindy Hop Experience and last but not least Jenny Copeland. We are really looking forward to seeing you all again next season. Also a huge thankyou to Joy Craddock for arranging a tent for us to use and taking care of us so well!!

The Rauceby War August Bank Holiday Weekend

Was a very well organised show that suffered from poor weather with the enevitable compliants from traders not covering their expenses, mainly due to the very poor turn out of the paying public attending the event. We to found that we scarcely had an audience throughout the weekend, which is a shame because we depend on members of the public with whom to hava a rapport. We had a similar experiance at a fledgeling event we attended in early July. It was however very nice to meet a group from Cornwall who had started to listen to our station after seeing us down at Marazion and then went on to book into Rauceby after hearing us advertise the event on the radio. Likewise, we were happy to meet a young lady called Christa who loved the station having only discovered us a few weeks back and again came to Raucby after hearing about the event on our station. Christa took great delight in seeing her parents being tormented by her request for Binnie Hales 'I like I nice Cup of Tea' We would like to wish the organisers better luck with the weather next year.

Battle for BritainYet another amazinghave to say, being a big kid, I absouloutly enjoyed seeing the minature tanks in operation. The attention to detail included animation of the crew figures which was amazing. I can hardly wait for next year's event. Again it was a pleasure to meet old friends of the station along with those that had only recently joined us as listeners and those that had attended the event after hearing about it from the station. A big thank you to you all!ly good event packed with arena events and a superb flying display on both days. These were backed up by all the fantastic re-enactors present and all the various staticdisplays.

Out and about at Bletchley Park 29,30 May

We took the radio station to the historic site of Bletchley Park, home of the code breakers and birthplace of the modern computer. It was a great weekend – despite the weather not being kind on the Monday. It was unfortunate that the high winds during the weekend prevented the Battle of Britain Memorial Flypast but never to be downhearted many of the re-enactors met outside the Mansion at 4pm to present a mock flypast where they proceeded to run (yes run) down the road with their arms open wide. It even had a Pilot and Navigator at the front and a Rear Gunner at the back. The crowd of spectators loved the display and applauded loudly with smiles on their faces.

There was a great turn out by wonderful re-enactors who spoke enthusiastically about their displays and some even braved the rain to dance to the 1940s music. We were able to interview some lovely people – two of which were Wrens serving at Bletchley Park during the war. Both of these ladies were a joy to listen to as they spoke about their time at Bletchley Park with fondness and incredible modesty.

During the weekend we received many compliments about how the station had contributed greatly to the atmosphere of the event and we were so happy to be asked to return next year and hope you too will put this venue into your diaries.

Out and about at Blyth Batterty Goes To War 21,22 May

The Northhumberland council's Arthur Cranson did a magnificent job overseeing 'Blyth Battery Goes To War'. This is an extremely well organised event. The attention to detail and the warm reception and appreciation of all the re-enactors and exhibitors attending the event from all the staff and volunteers

was second to none. We would like to extend a huge thank you to all concerned. We had a lovely time, despite the fact that the extremely strong wind blew down one of our gazebos on Saturday afternoon and later in the evening damaged our remaining standing gazebo. For our own safety and the safety of the public we decided to pull down the remaining one and see what the weather had to offer the next day. Sadly in the morning the wind was as strong as ever and

heavy rain showers were forecasted so with much sadness we decided that we were blitzed and could not continue the show due to the risk of the damage to our remaining equipment. We are now going to invest in a more substantial cover for future events. We are really looking forward to returning next year.

For this year we take pleasure in the fact that we met so many people that we had been in contact with over the internet during the past year. I would like to thank John 'Stuffy' Ellis for his friendship and his great support of us and his work with Bunker Thirteen. Also Colin Bourdiec who was huge fun to interview and has contributed to our programs in the past and we hope to continue working with him in the future.

We did manage to record a program on Saturday 21 and this will be transmitted as soon as it has been edited.

The Polka Dot Dolls

Commencing at 11.00am with the Birmingham Gatka Troop Sikh Band on the main stage followed by The British Imperial Military Band the musical entertainment was already proving to be rich and varied, The Jive Aces took to the stage at noon and were an instant hit with the crowd.

Jive Aces With Rebecca Grant

Jive Aces With Rebecca Grant from BBC 1's Holby City

The Aces had a special treat for Telford: a guest appearance from the very beautiful Rebecca Grant from BBC 1's Holby City.Following the Jive Aces onto the stage were the lovely and extremely talented Polka Dot Dolls who entranced the audiance with all the evergreen songs of the 1940s, after they had completed their concert the Polka Dot dolls and Jive Aces were hijacked by the enthusiastic public for photo opportunities and spent the rest of the afternoon chatting with the public - how often do you see the stars of a show doing this?

The Funky Butt Swing & Dance Ensemble also provided an excellent selection of music from the 1920s onwards. The Oxford Gargoyles then followed by the eagerly awaited Jive Aces who closed The 1940s Uk Radio Station's entertainment for the event.

Around the arena was a children's entertainment area, an RAF helicopter, Civil War re-enactments, a display of historic military vehicles, motor cycles from The Royal British Legion Riders Branch, a genuine 1940s NAAFI van as well as plenty of food and drink stalls

Traction Engines

LorryTractor

Yet another wonderful weekend despite the odd heavy shower. This event proved to be huge covering 3 massive fields and endless retail streets covering surplus army equipment, toys for the kids a Mercedes Van show area and just about everything else you could imagine. Being a steam rally there was a feast of Traction Engines and Steam Rollers both full size and and various working scale versions all immaculately turned out. A full schedule of events in various arenas provided plenty to see from a parade of steam engines in operation to vintage military and classic cars from across the years. The UK 1940s Radio Station was stationed beside a full size replica Spitfire in the 1940s area and the wonderful Pitsford Home Guard (NN9) Living History Unit who were guarding the 1940s picnic park. Lin Quigley from Cambs & Beds Lindyhop Experience organised the members of the Home Guard and some of the 1940s Ladies and Gents having a picnic into providing several demonstrations of the Lindyhop and Balboa dances in front of our radio booth. We certainly made some great friends at this event and have been invited back again next year. We understand that the organisers of the Stoke Goldington Steam Rally were very pleased in the way the entire 40s village worked together to provide a brilliant atmosphere that was enjoyed by the public attending the event and are now looking to increase the scale of the 40s area to include more living history groups.this event is a definite must please put it in your diaries.

Radio Station

The 1940s Uk Radio Station at The Royal Gunpowder Mills in Essex, A wonderful weekend was had by all. The weather was fine although breezy. There were many fantastic re-enactment groups including British, U.S ,German, Italian and Japanese groups depicting many varied scenes in the surrounding woodlands and main field overlooked by the incorporatating mill building. We would like to thank all the groups and members of the public for their very kind comments regarding our radio station. We were told by many that being able to here our high quality sound system all over the field transported them back to the period they were acting out and our authentic news transmissions were second to none and really added to the event experience.
